GBES Weekly Family Forecast (May 23- 27)

Dear Families,

The long weekend weather started off nice. Looking forward to more longer days that June brings, and warm, sunny weather.

A gift card and cell phone were found on school property. If you think either of these might be yours, contact Ms. Betts in the office to make an inquiry.

I am excited to officially announce that funding from the municipality and province for a new playground has been approved. The new playground will be installed sometime during late Fall.

Masks
Last Thursday, the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development announced that the mask requirement in Nova Scotia’s public schools, and on school buses, will be removed beginning Tuesday, May 24.

Wearing a mask will be a personal choice. Individuals may not request that others wear a mask. Please respect the choices of those around you and remember to treat everyone with kindness and understanding as we all adjust.

If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher or Mr. Hurley.

Grade 3 Provincial Assessments
Grade 3 students completed a Reading, Writing, and Math Assessment last week. Results from this assessment will be shared with families sometime in the Fall.

Registration for 2022-2023
We are accepting pre-primary and primary registrations for the upcoming school year. Please share this information with family, friends, and parents in our community.

SAC & Home & School
We are seeking volunteers to serve on our School Advisory Council and Home and School next year. If you are interested in joining the SAC, we are holding a meeting on Monday, May 30. Please email jhurley@hrce.ca or contact the office to speak to the Mr. Hurley for more information.

We need lots of volunteers to join the Home & School. Our first meeting will be in September 2022. Members are made up of parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and others who are interested in working together for the benefit of all children. Contact Mr. Hurley if you are interested in joining the Home and School Association next year.

School Supplies

Teachers are beginning to create school supplies lists for next year. You can pick up supplies on your own or give the school $40.00 to purchase supplies for your child. We are asking that all families complete this School Supply Google Form by clicking on this link:  https://forms.gle/uirWZ1rmcNZxtv8e8  so that we gather an accurate count of how many families want the school to purchase school supplies. You will receive a School Cash Online email with a link to make a payment this week or you may choose to give cash to the office if choose to have the school purchase classroom supplies.

Garden Grant
We have received a grant to start a garden program at school. In early June, we are hoping to build garden boxes and plant seeds.

Host Families

HRCE is looking for Host Families for the 2022-2023 school year. Could this be you?

If you’re looking for a new adventure, we’re looking for you! This fall, HRCE will welcome students from 36 different countries who come to study and learn English. In the Nova Scotia International Student Program, students are immersed in an English-speaking environment at the homestay and also at the school level. They’re keen to share their culture as well. All students are supported by a Homestay Coordinator who lives in the school catchment area and provides full-time support. We plan several activities throughout the year which host families are often encouraged to attend as well.

Host families receive a tax-free monthly stipend of $725.00 / month per student.

Would you consider being a host family? Know someone who would? Please contact hostastudent@hrce.ca

Little Caesar’s Pizza hot lunch takes place on Wednesday.

Thank you for your continued support!

Have a terrific week,

Jimmy Hurley
