This Week @ GBES May 6-10
Hey GBES Families,
It’s May! There is a little less than 8 weeks of school. We received good news this week: George Bissett Elementary is getting a Guidance Counselor next year. We are a small school so we will get 30% allocation. This could be 1.5 days a week, or 3 mornings/afternoons. We have been working on this support for many years. It will be a welcome addition to the tools we have to support our students.
Just a reminder as you are planning spring/summer sports and activities: there is support available to find the right program, and financial support if you need it. There are also programs to just pay for gear for the sport. Please contact me firstname.lastname@example.org or drop by the school.
The Sun is out ( sometimes), and the grass is getting greener. The students are having a great time in the mud, playing soccer, and generally playing outside in the warmer weather. A change of clothes is still very helpful. Just a reminder that we encourage students biking, scootering, and walking to school. We have bike racks for bikes and scooters. Helmets are a must.
We are planning our May 17th Professional Development day. We are partnering with Robert Kemp Turner, Atlantic View Elementary, and Tallahassee Community school to bring a speaker on Self-Regulation. Dr. Susan Hopkins from the Mehrit Centre ( http://self-reg.ca ) will be our presenter. We are building on our understanding of self-regulation and how we can help out students navigate the stress of life/school. By learning to navigate these stressors better, learning and well being is better. The other schools will be getting an introduction to self-regulation.
Have a great week!
